The Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has banned the celebration of the 2025 edition of the Wa Yaa Dorm, Wa Yaa Klowem festival, from taking place in Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality, citing fears of potential clashes with another local festival.

To prevent disruptions, the council invoked the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act, 2020 (Act 1030) and officially prohibited the Wa Yaa Dorm festival from being held on the proposed date.

Officials from the Regional Security Council explained that the newly introduced event coincides with the annual Plau Kani festival, a long-standing tradition observed by the chiefs and people of Plau.

Following growing tensions in the area, authorities reassessed the security risks associated with both festivals.

After the review, REGSEC determined that both celebrations would use the same procession route on Saturday, April 19, 2025, increasing the likelihood of conflict.

REGSEC has urged organisers to comply with the directive in the interest of peace and stability in the Yilo Krobo Municipality.

The police have also been instructed to ensure law and order throughout the Plau Kani festivities.
