EC declares John Mahama winner of Ghana’s 2024 presidential election

John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been declared the winner of Ghana’s 2024 presidential election by Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC).

Mr. Mahama secured a landslide victory, receiving 6,328,397 votes, which is 56.55% of the total votes cast. His main opponent, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.

The announcement was made after counting results from 267 constituencies. The EC noted that results from nine constituencies are still pending but clarified that they would not impact the overall outcome.

The elections, held on December 7, marked a strong comeback for John Mahama, reaffirming his popularity among voters and setting the stage for his leadership in the next administration.

The president-elect John Dramani Mahama will be addressing the nation at 7pm tonight.

The total valid votes is 11,191,422, with rejected ballots being 239,109. Total votes cast were 11, 430,531.

The percentage of voter turnout stands at 60.9% based on 267 constituencies.
