Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been officially declared the winner of the Tema Central parliamentary elections following a court-ordered re-collation of results. The Electoral Commission (EC) announced that Forson secured 18,870 votes, narrowly edging out Ebi Bright of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who polled 18,815 votes. Independent candidate Frederick Aniagyei managed 209 votes, while 144 ballots were rejected. Out of the total 38,038 votes cast, 37,894 were valid.

This announcement comes after the High Court, on January 4, 2025, directed the EC to finalize results for Tema Central and three other constituencies, Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, and Techiman South, by January 6. The court also ordered police protection during the collation process to maintain order.

The re-collation affirmed Forson as the Member of Parliament-elect for Tema Central, solidifying the NPP’s hold on the seat. Meanwhile, the NDC has signaled its intention to appeal the High Court’s ruling across all four constituencies, ensuring the legal battle is far from over. Forson’s victory, however, stands as a significant win for the NPP in the region.
