A dedicated team from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) worked through torrential rains on Sunday night to repair critical power infrastructure in Obuasi, demonstrating remarkable commitment to service delivery.
The emergency response team sprang into action after identifying a fault in the outdoor cable termination at the Bulk Supply Point yard, beginning repairs at 7:00 PM and restoring power by 11:00 PM despite challenging weather conditions.
The swift resolution prevented prolonged outages in the area, with the Ashanti Sub-Transmission Cable Maintenance team receiving high-level commendations for their efforts. ECG’s Acting Managing Director Ing. Kwame Kpekpena led the chorus of praise, acknowledging the team’s professionalism in maintaining the region’s 33/11 kV distribution network.
“This exemplary response reflects our institutional commitment to reliable power supply,” said Collins Manu, PRO for Ashanti Sub-Transmission. The overnight operation highlights the critical behind-the-scenes work that maintains Ghana’s power infrastructure, particularly during adverse conditions that often test the resilience of electrical systems.
Industry observers note that such rapid response capabilities become increasingly vital as Ghana’s power demand grows. The successful repair operation in Obuasi sets a benchmark for utility service standards, coming at a time when consumers are particularly sensitive to service reliability. With the rainy season intensifying, ECG’s preparedness for weather-related disruptions will remain crucial in maintaining public confidence in the power sector.
