The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Mr. John Jinapor, has debunked claims that the John Dramani Mahama-led administration is planning to sell off the largest electricity power distributor, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series forum today, Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the Energy Minister clarified that the government is not planning to sell ECG, but rather it is seeking private sector involvement in ECG’s billing and collection operations to enhance efficiency.

“We are not selling ECG. What we are seeking to do is to involve the private sector, particularly in the billing and collection sector,” he reiterated.

The Energy Minister is therefore, encouraging Ghanaian entrepreneurs, businessmen/women as well as groups to take advantage of the opportunity and support improvements in the power distribution sector.

“We have good Ghanaian entrepreneurs and businessmen. This is an opportunity for you. Get involved and help us bring about improvement in the sector,” he added.
