The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared the parliamentary results for Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central constituencies as illegal and invalid.

Deputy EC Chair for Operations Samuel Tettey announced this during a press briefing in Accra on Friday.

He explained that while results for three constituencies — Suhum, Akwatia, and Fanteakwa North — have been successfully re-collated, the process has not been completed in Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, Obuasi East, and Techiman South.

In the case of Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central, Mr. Tettey stated that the re-collation process was disrupted. “The centers were besieged by party supporters, who took over the process and forced staff to declare results for their preferred candidates,” he revealed.

He further stressed that the disruptions prevented officials from following the legal procedures outlined in CI 127. This included threats against EC officers to declare winners without completing the proper steps.

“The commission has concluded that these collations and declarations, which did not follow the laid-down procedures, are illegal and cannot be upheld,” Mr. Tettey added.

The EC says it remains committed to ensuring transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
