Esther Smith is a name that continues to resonate with music lovers across generations. Known for her back-to-back hits that dominated the airwaves some years ago, her songs still touch the soul whenever they are played.

Whether it’s ‘Nsuro’, ‘Nipa’, ‘Gye No Di’, or ‘Odiyasem’, one cannot help but dance, sing passionately, or soak in the spiritual message, no matter the place or moment.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with blogger Kobby Kyei, Esther Smith revealed the secrets behind her success and why her songs became hits even during a period when many of her contemporaries were releasing music frequently.

She explained that prayer, spiritual preparation, and character were central to her music-making process. Before releasing any song, she would take time to pray fervently and study the Word of God, ensuring her music aligned with her faith.

“During my time, before I release a song, I take time to pray fervently and also study the Word of God,” she said.

Esther Smith also shared a unique aspect of her creative process: she has never written a song on paper. Instead, all her songs come to her divinely and fully formed in her mind. Across her ten albums, none of her tracks were manually written, a process she describes as a direct encounter with the Holy Spirit.

“Whenever a song drops in my spirit, I go straight to the studio to record. I cannot write the Twi language, so I work with my producer, Morris Babyface, to bring it to life. Because the songs just dropped in my head, whenever I wanted to record and the sound engineer was delaying, I felt uneasy because I had to record it,” she said.

The gospel icon emphasized that her humility and Christ-like lifestyle also set her apart. She noted that as a gospel musician, people look up to you, and your music must reflect your character.

“As a gospel musician, representing Christ goes beyond music. Your life must reflect the Word of God and inspire others to draw closer to Him,” she explained.
