A plot by the NDC to orchestrate their presidential candidate, John Mahama’s popularity, especially in the Ashanti Region, has been uncovered by one of the key architects of the move.
Former President John Mahama is scheduled to start a 4-day tour of the Ashanti Region on Saturday and ahead of the tour, some party executives are alleged to have held meetings to engineer what they described as “creating popularity for JM”.
The plot, according to an Ashanti Regional NDC executive, is to create an artificial popularity for Mr. Mahama in the NPP’s stronghold by presenting Bawumia T-shirts to NDC supporters in the Region who will show up at Mahama’s rallies during his tour portraying themselves as defectors from the New Patriotic Party to the National Democratic Congress.
The meeting is disclosed to have gone on at a hotel in Kumasi last night and a number of Bawumia T-shirts have already been secured for the exercise which is expected to start on day one of Mahama’s tour.
“If you see people wearing Bawumia T-shirts and telling the world that they are NPP supporters in Ashanti who have defected, it is all lies. We orchestrated it to create the impression that Mahama is lived in Ashanti.”
“They are our own supporters and we gave them the T-shirts. They will be bussed to the grounds and you are going to see it all over in Ashanti throughout Mahama’s tour”, the NDC executive who spoke on confidentiality said.
However, the NDC executive who revealed these expressed his anger over some financial disbursements which he deserves but has been denied him.
“This idea came from the top in Accra and we all embraced it and worked towards it. But how do we do all the work, get the boys, get the T-shirts and somebody will sit on what is due us. It is not fair, so a few of us decided to let the cat out of the bag. Everything you will see is fake”, he stressed.
Asked why the NDC would adopt such awkward move to present it’s own supporters in Bawumia T-shirts as NPP defectors, he replied, those in Accra were concerned about Bawumia’s popularity in Ashanti Region and the threat it posses to the NDC.
“They told us they were worried over the support Bawumia is getting in the Ashanti Region, so we all have to do something and this was the plan. But I won’t be part of it again. Those who are sitting on the money should go and do their fake things.”
