A viral video circulating on social media has captured the dramatic moment a man suspected of impersonating a military officer was apprehended by a group of civilians at the Kumasi Airport Roundabout.
In the footage, the suspect is seen being confronted and manhandled by several individuals who accused him of wearing a military uniform to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public.
Despite attempting to resist, the group overpowered him and escorted him to the nearest police station for further action.
Eyewitnesses claim the man had been posing as a soldier and allegedly using the disguise to intimidate and exploit civilians. His arrest has since sparked discussions online about public safety and impersonation.
Under Ghanaian law, it is a criminal offence for unauthorised persons to wear or possess military uniforms or related equipment. The law, known as the Restriction on Use of Military Uniforms and Equipment Act, 1967 (NLCD 177), strictly prohibits such acts.
Authorities, including the Ghana Armed Forces, have consistently warned that impersonation of military personnel poses a serious security threat and undermines public trust.
Offenders risk arrest, fines, or imprisonment of up to one year if found guilty.
