Ghanaian musician Fancy Gadam has publicly expressed disappointment over what he describes as an insulting royalty payment from the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), after receiving a reported amount of GH¢123.82 for his works.

In a strongly worded reaction, the artiste questioned how years of creativity, sleepless nights, studio expenses, promotions, and sustained hard work could translate into such a modest figure.

According to Fancy Gadam, the notification was not merely about the money but a reflection of a deeper issue surrounding how music and creative labour are valued in Ghana.

“This is not just a notification; it’s a loud question mark on how our music is valued and how creatives are treated,” he noted, echoing sentiments shared by many within the creative industry.

Fancy Gadam emphasised that while artistes continue to create out of passion and love for their craft, passion alone should not be the sole reward.

He argued that fair compensation is essential for sustainability, growth, and the long-term development of Ghana’s music industry.

His comments have reignited public debate about royalty distribution, transparency, and accountability within GHAMRO.

Many industry players and fans have since joined the conversation, calling for reforms that ensure artistes are adequately compensated for the use of their intellectual property.

Fancy Gadam concluded by urging GHAMRO to do better, stressing that creatives deserve respect, fairness, and systems that genuinely reflect the value of their contributions to Ghana’s cultural and creative economy.
