A woman identified as Abida Akila Abubakar has been busted for defrauding more than 10 mobile money agents across parts of Accra.

According to reports, the suspect was arrested in June 2025 after she attempted to defraud another mobile money vendor at Batsoona. The report led to her arrest by authorities.

However, sources indicate that following the arrest, she was later released without many of the victims recovering the full amounts they claim to have lost.

Some of the affected mobile money agents received only about a quarter of the money they say was taken from them. Others have alleged that they have not received any refund since the incident occurred.

The development has prompted calls from some of the victims and members of the public for authorities to revisit the case and conduct further investigations.

Mobile money vendors in parts of Accra have also expressed concern about the alleged incidents, highlighting the risks associated with handling large volumes of cash transactions daily.
