The Elite U15 Boys Colts Championship concluded on Sunday at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence (GSCE) in Prampram, marking a significant step in the identification and development of young football talents in Ghana. The championship saw Volta Region emerge victorious, defeating Ashanti Region in a thrilling final with a score of 3-2.

The final match, held on October 27th, drew a host of distinguished guests, including the President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, and Chief of Staff, Michael Osekere.

Other key figures present were the 1st Vice Chairman of the National Juvenile Committee, Joe Salam Abubakar, FIFA Talent Identification Specialist, Laban Scott Libby, and Executive Council member of the FA, Eugene Noel Nobel.

Additionally, the Technical Director of the GFA, Professor Joseph Kwame Mintah, and the Chairperson of the Referees Appointment Committee, Madam Christine Zigah, were in attendance.

Members of the technical teams of the National U-15 and U-17 teams were also in attendance.

The championship kicked off on October 16th, featuring participation from all ten administrative football regions of Ghana. It served as a platform for young players to showcase their skills and for scouts to identify promising talents.

All the games in the championship were handled by young referees between 12 and 14 years who are part of the ‘Catch Them Young’ referees.

The initiative is part of FIFA’s ongoing Talent Identification Scheme, aiming to develop and nurture football skills among youth.

This event follows the Elite U15 Girls Championship, which took place at the same venue in July this year. The GFA has been committed to prioritizing talent identification, with the FIFA Talent Identification Scheme playing a central role in this mission.
