Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, during his working visit to the Western Region, made a brief stop at the Benso Oil Palm Plantation in Adum Abanso, where he engaged with workers, management, and smallholder farmers.

The visit formed part of the Minister’s broader agenda to assess key industries driving Ghana’s economic growth, with a special focus on agriculture and value addition.

At the plantation, Dr. Forson interacted directly with local farmers and industry players, discussing the immense potential of the oil palm sector to serve as a major engine of job creation and rural empowerment.

Speaking to the farmers on Tuesday November 11, 2025, he emphasized that renewed investment and targeted government policies in the oil palm industry could significantly boost production, create sustainable employment for the youth, and reduce Ghana’s dependency on imported vegetable oils.

Dr. Forson also assured stakeholders of the government’s ongoing commitment to building a robust agro-industrial base that supports inclusive growth and sustainable development.

He noted that strengthening value chains like oil palm not only benefits local communities but also contributes meaningfully to Ghana’s transformation agenda.

The workers and farmers at the plantation expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a strong signal of government’s recognition of their contribution to the nation’s economy.
