Ghanas Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has revealed the remarkable story of Ghanaian-born striker Joel Kojo, who has become a standout figure for the Kyrgyzstan national team.Ablakwa disclosed that the discovery came during bilateral meetings in Kyrgyzstan, where the countrys President and Foreign Minister both described Kojo as their favourite footballer and a national hero.According to the Minister, the forward was encouraged to switch nationality to represent Kyrgyzstan, where he now plays for the national team, known as the White Falcons.Kojos impact has been significant, having been named Kyrgyzstans best player in 2025 and emerging as the countrys all-time leading scorer. He also played a key role in helping the team qualify for the Asian Cup.Another Ghanaian, Emmanuel Yaghr, is also making his mark in the Kyrgyz domestic league.Following the meetings, Ablakwa arranged to meet both players, praising the Kyrgyz Football Association for facilitating the encounter and extending a warm reception.In a further twist, Kojo revealed to the Minister that he is originally from Juapong in the North Tongu constituency.Ghana and Kyrgyzstan have since agreed to explore bilateral cooperation in football development, with Ablakwa expressing pride in the achievements of Ghanaian players abroad and the growing Ghanaian community in the Central Asian country.
