The former in-laws of a model whose legs were found in a fridge have been charged with her murder.

Abby Choi’s former father-in-law and his eldest son are accused of killing the 28-year-old model, while her former mother-in-law faces one count of perverting the course of justice, police in Hong Kong said.

Ms Choi’s ex-husband has also been arrested and is expected to be charged with murder on Sunday, said Superintendent Alan Chung.

Officers discovered part of her body – along with her identity card, credit cards and other items – on Friday.

Her body had been dissected and the remains were stored in a fridge in a rural village house in Tai Po, close to the border with mainland China.

In an update on Sunday, Mr Chung said a young woman’s skull, believed to be Ms Choi’s, had been found in one of a number of cooking pots they had seized.

“There’s a hole on the right side rear on the skull, so the pathologist believes that that should be the fatal attack on the victim,” the officer said.

According to police, a meat slicer and electric saw were found at the scene, along with several ribs, hair, and human tissue.

Forensic pathologists discovered a small number of human bones in another cooking pot, Mr Chung added.

They are still trying to locate her hands and torso.

It is believed that Ms Choi was attacked in a car and was unconscious when she arrived at the house, Mr Chung said.

The exact time of death remains unclear.

Mr Chung said the authorities believe Ms Choi had financial disputes involving tens of millions of Hong Kong dollars – with HK$1m the equivalent of about £107,000.

The police superintendent said Ms Choi’s ex-husband, his family and “some people” were believed to be unhappy with how the model handled her financial assets.

Ms Choi shared a glamorous life of photo shoots and fashion shows with more than 100,000 followers on social media.

Her last post was a week ago, featuring a photoshoot she had done with a fashion publication, L’Officiel Monaco.

A woman police believe to be the mistress of her father-in-law has also been arrested over allegedly assisting the other suspects.
