Former Kwesimintsim MP Dr. Prince Hamid Armah has called for an unprecedented political truce following the helicopter crash that killed eight officials, urging rival parties to forgo upcoming by-elections as a mark of respect.
In a Facebook post addressing the deaths of Tamale Central MP Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and Akwatia MP Ernest Yaw Kumsi in the August 6th disaster, Armah appealed: “Out of respect, NPP should step aside in Tamale Central. NDC should do the same in Akwatia. Honour their memory with silence, not slogans.”
The academic-turned-politician framed the request as a matter of dignity rather than partisan advantage, adding: “Politics can wait. Dignity cannot.” His proposal comes amid national mourning for the victims, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, whose remains were received in Accra under full military honors earlier this week.
Simultaneously, security analyst Richard Kumadoe reiterated demands for a thorough crash investigation. “Verification, confirmation, & affirmation are critically key to us all,” he posted, emphasizing the need to determine whether the incident stemmed from mechanical failure or other causes. The Ghana Armed Forces confirmed the aircraft disappeared en route to Obuasi before being found “burned beyond recognition” in Adansi Akrofuom District.
