GACL Welcomes Virgin Atlantic As It Resumes Flight Operations In Ghana From May 2025 | Travel/Tourism

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced that Virgin Atlantic will resume operations in Ghana starting May 2025.

Virgin Atlantic will become the 25th airline to operate out of Kotoka International Airport, with daily flights using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

This move highlights growing confidence in Ghana’s aviation sector and strengthens the country’s position as a leading aviation hub in West Africa.

The return of Virgin Atlantic is a significant milestone for Ghana’s aviation industry, reinforcing efforts to establish Kotoka International Airport as the preferred airport business leader in the region. The addition of Virgin Atlantic to the airport’s roster is expected to enhance connectivity options for travelers, linking passengers from Ghana to various destinations around the world.

Managing Director of GACL, Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare welcomed Virgin Atlantic back on behalf of the Board, Management, and Staff.

“We are thrilled to welcome Virgin Atlantic back to Ghana, which will become the 25th international airline to operate at Kotoka International Airport. We look forward to collaborating with Virgin Atlantic to ensure a seamless launch of their operations and continued facilitation at the airport,” she said in a statement.

Mrs. Opare also announced GACL’s strategic plans to optimize the use of Terminal 2 at Kotoka International Airport.

With the growing number of airlines operating in Ghana, the GACL aims to relocate some airlines to Terminal 2 to ease congestion at Terminal 3, reduce long queues, and enhance travel experiences for passengers and airlines alike. The details of this plan will be communicated to the public following stakeholder engagements.
