German President, Frank-Walter Stemeier visits KCCR

The German President, Frank-Walter Stenmeier,  has paid a day’s visit to the Kame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST where he familiarized himself with activities at the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research into tropical medicine, KCCR. 

KCCR was established in 1997 as an international platform for biomedical research in a joint project  between Ghana’s KNUST School of Medical Sciences, SMS, and the Bernhard-Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine, BNITM, Hamburg, Germany. 

The among its objectives is to develop world standard research and serve as a training facility with educational programmes for Ghanaian postgraduates and technical staff. 

This, it has been diligently pursuing over the years and proved handy during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Mr. Stenmeier was conducted around the Research centre by its Director, Professor Richard Odame Philips. 

They toured the laboratories where research activities were ongoing. He was was also briefed about the history, successes and prospects of the Centre

The Director of the Centre told the German President that, KCCR has grown in leaps and bound since its establishment producing many more PhD graduates, researchers and wining Awards nationally and internationally for the quality of research works it does.

The German President was led on his tour by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene. 

Mr. Atenmeier has since ended his official visit to the Ashanti region.
