The Ghana Education Service (GES) has asked some 165,619 graduates of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), representing 31 percent of the 2022 cohort, to access the self-placement option to be able to secure admission to the Free Senior High School (FSHS) programme and Technical, Vocational, Education, and Training (TVET) schools.
According to the GES, out of the 547,329 candidates who sat for the examination, only 538,399 qualified for school placement.
“Out of the 547,329 registered candidates, 538,399 candidates qualified to be placed. A total of 372,780, representing 69.24 percent of the qualified students, have automatically been placed in one of their choices.
“However, 165,619 qualified candidates representing 30.76 percent could not be matched with any of their choices. All such students are, therefore, to do self–placement to select from available schools,” stated GES.
At a press conference on Wednesday 15, February 2023, the Service announced that the digital platform is now active, therefore, candidates can now log onto the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) to check their schools and that those without placement but qualified, can self-place.
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) released the BECE results on January 25, 2023. As has always been the norm, the Service took delivery of the results data and began preparing for the placement.
How to access placement platform
To access the placement platform, candidates are to follow the following steps: Obtain a placement pin code from an approved vendor; log onto the site www.cssps.gov.gh; enter the ten-digit index number and add 22 as the year of completion. E.g., 123456789022; and enter the pin code details – serial number and pin.
After accessing the platform, students can then print the form and visit the schools they have been placed to begin the admission process.
In the event that candidates are not matched with any of their choices from the automatic placement system, they will be redirected to the self-placement portal. From the portal, they can then select a school of choice by following the instruction on the portal.
Reporting date
Per the 2023 academic calendar, first-year students are to report to school on February 20, 2023, with orientation for academic work to commence on February 27, 2023.
Grievance redress mechanisms
The GES indicated that it has set up solution centres at all regional education offices as well as one at the national level located at the GNAT Hall, in Accra-Adabraka.
It said, it also has a call centre with well-trained staff to address parents’ and students’ concerns via contact number 030 2987654.
In conclusion, the GES cautioned parents and guardians to be cautious of unscrupulous individuals who may approach them to pay for their children’s placement.
