The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially acknowledged the resignation of Laryea Kingston as head coach of the Black Starlets, as stated in a recent announcement.

Following the team’s elimination from the ongoing 2024 WAFU B U17 Cup of Nations, where they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Burkina Faso in the semifinals at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Saturday, Kingston made the decision to step down from his position.

In a statement released by the GFA, it was noted that Kingston’s resignation was accepted after he failed to attend the team’s evening meeting with the Management Committee.

The statement from the GFA reads, “He [Laryea Kingston] failed to attend the Team’s evening meeting with the Management Committee and has since not reported at the Team Hotel. The GFA duly accepts Laryea’s resignation.”

With the third-place playoff match against Nigeria scheduled for Tuesday, May 28, 2024, the current Assistant Coaches will assume responsibility for the team in Kingston’s absence.

The loss to Burkina Faso not only brought an end to Ghana’s campaign in the tournament but also signifies their failure to qualify for the U17 AFCON for a third consecutive time, adding to the disappointment of the team and its supporters.
