Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member, Randy Abbey, has expressed the council’s collective dissatisfaction with the performance of the Black Stars and called for significant improvement.

The national team, under the guidance of coach Chris Hughton, has registered just one victory and two draws since his appointment, leading to criticism from fans and pundits alike.

Their most recent match, a goalless draw with Madagascar, drew widespread criticism for the team’s lacklustre performance.

With crucial fixtures ahead, including an important clash against Central African Republic in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September, followed by the 2026 World Cup qualifiers commencing in November, the Executive Council wants to see a marked improvement from the squad.

“We are not too happy; we think there has to be a lot of improvement which needs to be made. We also don’t have all the time in the world, so we need to be fast about it,” Abbey expressed in an interview with Spice FM.

He emphasized that there is much work to be done, especially considering the high expectations for Hughton and his team of Dramani and Boateng, who have been involved with the national team for an extended period and are expected to deliver positive results.

Ghana’s upcoming match against Central African Republic is pivotal, as a win or draw would secure their place in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The Black Stars will also compete with Mali, Madagascar, Comoros, Central African Republic, and Chad in Group I for a spot in the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
