
The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to hold an emergencymeeting today,April 7, 2026, with the appointment of a new Black Stars head coach expected to dominate discussions.The move comes after the dismissal of the 50-year-old tactician following Ghanas consecutive defeats to Austria and Germany during last months international friendlies.Those results intensified scrutiny over the teams direction, particularly with the 2026 FIFA World Cup fast approaching.With less than three months to the global showpiece in North America, the pressure is mounting on the GFA to establish a clear technical leadership for the national team.Several high-profile names, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, and Fernando Santos, have been linked with the vacant role.The Executive Committee is expected to review the options and arrive at a preferred candidate during todays meeting.Following the decision, the GFA will enter into consultations with the government before any official announcement is made.The football governing body has indicated its intention to appoint a coach with a proven track record at either club or international level.Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has hinted that the new head coach is expected to be officially announced by Monday, April 13.If by this weekend we dont announce the coach, then by Monday at the latest we should be able to present our new Black Stars coach, he told Channel One TV.After the appointment of a new head coach for the team, preparations for the Black Stars are expected to resume in May, with a friendly against Mexico on the horizon, followed by another preparatory match against Wales on June 2.Ghana will be making its fifth appearance at the World Cup, where it has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
