As he continues to provide guiding themes for various Departments and Committees of the Ghana Football Association, GFA President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, attended the maiden meeting of the Finance Committee of the Association held on Friday, April 19, 2024.
The five-member committee, chaired by hardworking GFA Vice-President, Mark Addo, met for the first time since the Committee was reconstituted at the GFA Secretariat in Accra.
The Committee discussed the general financial outlook of the Association in keeping with the Committee’s mandate to be a pivotal guide and support system to the Finance unit of the FA.
The Committee touched on helping the FA in developing its financial strategy and assisting in reviewing the annual audited financial statements of the Association.
Other major areas discussed at the meeting included, guiding the Football Association in its yearly budgeting processes while assisting the clubs to improve on their financial reporting.
The Committee will also ensure that the annual statutory CAF/FIFA audit is carried out successfully.
To ensure compliance with standards, the committee will offer support to the Finance unit of the FA in managing identifiable key financial risks and to tighten controls in order to safeguard the financial assets of the FA.
“We had our maiden meeting today to basically look at the key financial issues that need to be addressed by the Committee,” Finance Committee Chairman, Mark Addo told ghanafa.org
“We discussed the central audit report from FIFA and plans regarding future engagements with the Finance unit of the FA.
“We will review the audited financial statements submitted by clubs in compliance with club licensing requirements and offer appropriate recommendations to ensure financial viability of the clubs.
“The Committee also talked about offering technical support to the FA from a standpoint of improving service delivery to its stakeholders and also to ensure there are adequate controls to manage risk.”
Other members of the Committee who attended the meeting included Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua, Shmuel Brew-Butler, Samuel Williams and Alhaji Abu-Hassan with Collins Dei who serves as Secretary to the committee.
