The South African High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Grace Jeanet Mason is urging businesses in Ghana and South Africa to leverage on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to bolster bilateral and economic relations.

She explains that the trade volume between the two countries is about 6 million US Dollars. This she believes can be multiplied if both countries tap into the full potentials provided by the AfCFTA.

Her Excellency Grace Jeanet Mason made these comments on the sidelines of a brief networking ceremony to commemorate South African’s Human Rights Day in Accra.

“The trade volume between South Africa and Ghana is already in excess of about $ 6 billion annually, and we can do more than this. The African Continental Free Trade Area is a catalyst for us to begin to trade more and to create value chains in all sectors,” she said.

“Thus Ghana will find what they have as a niche in these industries and economies and South Africa will also have our niche as well as. This will even deepen our collaborations. The fact is that we are already trading amongst ourselves. We have over 200 South Africans companies from diverse sectors here in Ghana,” she added.

She also assured of more investment, “and we are bringing in more investment in the areas of infrastructure and trade and precisely on the backdrop of the African Continental Free Trade Area because that is a platform with instruments that make ease the process of doing business”

Her Excellency Grace Jeanet Mason, also expressed her optimism of the coming into force the protocol of AfCFTA schedule for July 2023 which seeks to equally  empower women in the trading sector.
