The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF) concluded Exercise African Lion 2025 on May 16 at the Air Force Training Command in Tamale.
The multinational exercise, spanning May 5–16, involved troops from Ghana, Benin, Liberia, Togo, and Sierra Leone, alongside over 10,000 personnel from 50 nations across four host countries.
Colonel Frank Gyabi-Abrokwah, representing Ghana’s Northern Command, emphasized the exercise’s focus on enhancing interoperability and crisis readiness. “Continuous training is critical to counter emerging threats, particularly terrorist risks from the Sahel,” he stated, urging participants to apply newly acquired skills. Lt. Col. Obadiah Brians, SETAF-AF Team Leader, highlighted the drill’s broader goal: “Strengthening multinational partnerships to bolster regional security.”
The exercise included academic sessions, joint planning simulations, and intelligence operations, aligning with U.S. Africa Command’s (AFRICOM) strategy to improve military responsiveness. Senior officials such as Air Commodore Richard Danso and Brig. Gen. John A. LeBlanc attended the closing ceremony, underscoring the collaborative effort to address shared security challenges.
