Ghana bids farewell to veteran actor Albert Odartei Jackson-Davis

The final funeral rites for iconic Ghanaian actor Albert Odartei Jackson-Davis will take place on Friday, January 24, 2025, marking the end of an extraordinary life dedicated to the arts.

Renowned for his captivating performances in film and his contributions to the arts, Jackson-Davis’s passing in September 2024 left a significant void in Ghana’s creative industry.

Ahead of the burial, his body will be laid in state on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 6 p.m. at his family home in James Town, near Mantse Agbonaa, a historic community closely tied to his roots. The burial service follows the next day at the Cathedral Church of The Most Holy Trinity on John Atta Mills High Street, Accra, culminating in a private burial.

Albert Jackson-Davis, who passed away in September 2024 after battling an undisclosed illness, was celebrated for his powerful screen presence and deep cultural influence. Known for his memorable roles in films like Beasts of No Nation (2015), My Very Ghanaian Wedding (2017), and The Storm (2024), he effortlessly bridged the gap between local storytelling and global cinema.

In the 1990s, Jackson-Davis served as Deputy Executive Director of PANAFEST, where he championed African heritage and unity through the arts. His leadership helped position the festival as a beacon for cultural revival and creative expression.

Beyond his achievements on screen and stage, Albert was a mentor to many and an advocate for Ghanaian culture. As tributes pour in from fans, colleagues, and cultural institutions, one thing is clear: his legacy will resonate far beyond the silver screen, in the hearts of those he inspired.
