The Ghana Bloggers Association (GBA) has expressed concern over the recent arrest and three-night detention of blogger Samuel Amadotor, following allegations that he published false information about Mr. Okatakye Boakye Danquah Ababio I on his online platform.

In a statement issued by the association, the GBA emphasized its commitment to promoting ethical, credible, and responsible digital journalism, while also upholding the rights of individuals involved in legal proceedings.

“The GBA does not condone the deliberate publication of false or malicious information about any individual, institution, or group,” the statement read. “Such acts undermine public trust, damage reputations, and weaken the credibility of the digital media landscape.”

The association commended the Ghana Police Service for following due process in handling complaints related to misinformation and encouraged all parties to allow investigations to proceed without interference. “Anyone found culpable must face the law in accordance with the Constitution and relevant statutes,” the statement added.

At the same time, the GBA urged law enforcement agencies to maintain constitutional safeguards in all procedures, emphasizing that Amadotor, like any suspect, should be presumed innocent until proven guilty. The association specifically condemned the reported three-night detention and called for timely processing and protection from unnecessary or prolonged pre-trial detention.

Highlighting the importance of responsible online publishing, the GBA also called on bloggers, influencers, and other digital media practitioners to verify information before publication and adhere strictly to ethical standards. To reinforce these principles, the association announced plans to intensify training programs focused on fact-checking, digital ethics, content responsibility, and professional standards.

“The Ghana Bloggers Association remains committed to promoting a safe, ethical, and responsible digital media environment while advocating for the rights, dignity, and fair treatment of all individuals within the media space,” the statement concluded.

The statement was signed by Andre Mustapha Nii Okai Inusah, President of the Ghana Bloggers Association.
