Ghana laid to rest Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and Deputy National Security Director Alhaji Muniru Lumina on Sunday, following Islamic funeral rites at Accra’s State House.

The officials were among eight victims of the August 6 helicopter crash in Adansi Akrofuom.

Mourners gathered at the State House forecourt for Janazah prayers before military honors escorted the bodies to Burma Camp Military Cemetery.

President John Mahama, senior officials, and grieving families attended the somber burial. An officiating Imam hailed both men as “icons of the Islamic tradition,” while leaders offered prayers for their souls.

President Mahama addressed families with restraint: “Today is not for speeches, but gratitude. Your patience honors Islamic rites urging swift burials.”

He vowed to advance Ghana’s reset agenda in their memory, adding, “Their legacy demands we serve harder so their names shine in Paradise.”

The government observes three days of national mourning, with an interdenominational state funeral set for August 15.

The crash—which also killed former ministers and security personnel—occurred en route to a mining event, deepening Ghana’s grief.
