Barnieh joined Aarau on a two-year deal after mutually parting ways with Swiss Super League outfit FC ZĂĽrich, where he struggled for consistent playing time.
His contract with Zürich was terminated earlier this summer, paving the way for a fresh opportunity in Switzerland’s second tier.
The former Hearts of Oak striker signed for ZĂĽrich in January 2023 on a three-and-a-half-year deal, making 50 competitive appearances and registering two goals and four assists.
Despite his involvement across competitions, Barnieh found it difficult to secure a regular place in the starting XI.
His arrival at Aarau marks a significant step in his efforts to reignite his European career. The club, who are aiming to push for promotion, will be hoping that Barnieh’s experience at both club and international level will add depth to their attacking options.
