Kofi AdamsGhana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has announced that the government is actively exploring plans to send a contingent of Ghanaian supporters to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the final number directly tied to the success of a newly established national fundraising campaign. In a radio interview, Adams confirmed that the policy direction is now firmly in place.”The policy that we should take fans is clear. It is clear that we should work at it, and that is why we have set up a fundraising committee,” he stated. “The number we would take ultimately will depend on how much we raise.”The initiative, aimed at ensuring vibrant support for the Black Stars in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will rely on mobilising resources from across Ghanaian society. A dedicated committee has been tasked with raising funds to cover travel and accommodation for the supporters.Adams acknowledged that the project requires significant investment and called for broad-based backing. “This is why we are appealing to corporate bodies, companies, mining firms and well-meaning individuals to come on board and support this initiative,” he added, framing it as a collective national effort. While specific targets for the number of fans have not been finalised, the minister emphasized the direct link between fundraising and participation. This strategy marks a concerted effort to replicate the passionate home support in stadiums abroad as Ghana seeks to advance from a tough Group L featuring England, Croatia, and Panama.
