New Patriotic Party (NPP)

Government spokesperson Anthony Kwame Julius has cautioned the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) against presuming unwavering loyalty from Ghanaian voters.

Speaking on Starr 103.5 FM’s The Verdict with Isaac Addae Tuesday evening, Julius emphasized that citizens are not permanently tied to any political party. His remarks directly addressed the NPP’s ongoing reorganization efforts following its defeat in the December 2024 general elections.

Julius contended that the NPP appears focused on internal power dynamics rather than substantive reflection after its loss. According to his broadcast comments, the opposition party swiftly shifted its attention to leadership contests instead of deeply analysing the policy failures that influenced voters. He suggested this internal focus neglects the critical economic concerns affecting citizens’ daily lives.

The spokesperson referenced the public reaction to former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s controversial “Are they stupid?” remark made prior to the 2024 polls. Julius asserted that the significant backlash stemmed not merely from the statement’s tone, but from widespread frustration over economic hardships experienced under the previous NPP administration. He connected this frustration directly to the election outcome.

Julius framed the 2024 election results as a pivotal lesson for all political entities in Ghana. He stressed that Ghanaian voters are discerning and prioritize tangible issues impacting their welfare. The outcome demonstrated, in his view, that parties failing to address these realities effectively will face consequences at the ballot box, regardless of historical affiliations.
