Ghana honours five global icons as Diaspora Summit envoys with diplomatic passports

In a move to strengthen its connection with the global African community, Ghana has honoured five distinguished personalities as Envoys of the Diaspora Summit 2025, granting them diplomatic passports to champion the country’s Pan-African vision and mobilise global support ahead of the summit in December.

Speaking at the launch of the 2025 Diaspora Summit in Accra, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the decision was made to honor and support their “tireless dedication” towards advancing the cause of African people worldwide.The diplomatic passports are intended to facilitate their ongoing work in promoting African tourism, culture, and unity.


“We have decided to honor five of our distinguished brothers and sisters by conveying on them a special status as envoys of this summit,” Minister Ablakwa stated.

“These five very special Africans are going to receive diplomatic passports from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ghana to sustain the mobilization that we see and feel. Government believes these individuals have not been celebrated enough for their contributions.”He added

The five honorees are:
​Vlogger Wode Maya: Honored for his significant efforts in promoting African tourism and bringing people of African descent together.

• ​Akosua Dentaa Amoateng, MBE, founder of the GUBA, Ghana UK-Based AchievementsRecognized for her work with the African Diaspora Youth Network in Europe, serving as a powerful voice for the Caribbean and African people.

• ​Rocky Dawuni: The iconic Grammy-nominated musician and activist, selected for his lifelong dedication to advancing the cause of African people.

• ​Anita Erskine: Celebrated as an “evergreen, ever creative” media personality and an inspiration to many for her work.

• ​Ibrahim Mahama: An artist whose unique background and work have brought great renown to the African people.

The diplomatic passports will provide the envoys with enhanced status and ease of travel, assisting them in their mission to promote the summit’s agenda of reunification and a new African renaissance.
