Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson has inaugurated a 15-member National Asset Management Working Committee, charging it to compile Ghana’s first comprehensive State Assets Register.
The committee, chaired by Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko, will identify and account for all public assets including buildings, lands, and equipment—amid concerns of misuse and unauthorized occupation.
Minister Forson emphasized the urgency of ending ad-hoc acquisitions without auditing existing holdings, citing undocumented sales of state lands under the Lands Commission as particularly problematic. The committee’s immediate mandate includes halting such transactions and establishing accountability frameworks to prevent asset misappropriation.
Comprising senior officials from key ministries including Works and Housing, Education, Health, Defence, and the Attorney-General’s Department the team signals the Mahama administration’s push for systemic transparency. The initiative aligns with broader governance reforms under President Mahama’s National Democratic Congress government ahead of the 2028 elections.
