Indigenous cultural presentations, entertainment, and a new shopping experience have been lined up by Achimota Retail Centre (ARC) for a month-long celebration of Ghana Month.
The “Celebrate Ghana” campaign kicked off with Independence Day cultural performances on Friday, March 6, which featured Ghanaian folkloric musical shows that will be replicated on subsequent Saturdays in the month. The University of Ghana Medical Students Association chose ARC for their Independence Day outreach programme as they pitched camp at the centre and offered free health screening for chronic kidney diseases.
From March 14 through subsequent weekends, a variety of ethnic focused musical performances sustain the momentum for a heavy ethno-Ghanaian celebration, but alongside all the traditional fanfare, a “Shop Ghana & Win” drive has been declared for shoppers in which a Ghc1000 worth voucher will be on offer for lucky shoppers at ensuing bi-weekly grand draws.
Rightly so, tenants or stores dealing in made-in-Ghana products and services in the fashion, food and accessories category, such as Gamel Clodin, MV Accessories and the Chop Bar, are taking centre stage throughout the Ghana Month celebration.
Most genzees, the young adults in particular, are sure to discover great excitement in the social media segments “Shop the Look” and the “Dance Ghana” 15-second reel challenge. While both episodes come with winnable rewards, they promise to blow the average young shopper’s mind with lots of fun, creativity, and a healthy dose of Ghanaian swag!
All weekends in Ghana Month are specially dedicated to Ghanaian craft and in-house craft vendors to heighten the ultimate Ghanaian ambience and experience, and ARC management has just disclosed that a window of celebration has been reserved for the Eid ul-Fitr Holiday Vibes when, Muslim shoppers will be treated to awesome gifts from a number of tenants.
Said Centre Manager Linda Pappoe, “ARC’s ‘Ghana Month’ celebration is all about showcasing indigenous Ghanaian culture in all its creative and artistic manifestations. Next week for instance, ‘Echoes of the Volta – Agbadza in Motion’ are taking centre stage here.
“Shoppers and revellers can grab the rare opportunity of immersing themselves in the rich harmonies and drum language of Ewe traditional music, and by the time the curtains drop down over our Ghana Month party on March 31, we hope that the majority of our customers and revellers would have shared their experiences with us at #CelebrateGhanaAtARC.”
ARC, commonly known by patrons as ‘Achimota Mall’, is located at Dome, near St. John’s Grammar School, off the Accra-Nsawam Highway. The Centre serves diverse social categories residing in almost a dozen communities in the Ga East Municipality.
Achimota Mall is anchored by the grocery giant Shoprite and Melcom superstore and offers customers a product mix of both Ghanaian and international brands in different retail categories, including fashion and clothing, electronics, grocery, and a range of popular delicatessen and eateries.
