Ghana’s Parliament has approved the Affirmative Action Gender Equity Bill 2024, a significant step towards rectifying historical gender imbalances and promoting equity in both public and private sectors.

Speaking on Tuesday, the esteemed Speaker Alban Bagbin announced, “The ‘ayes’ have it.” His leadership, which has been instrumental in this process, has steered the passage of the bill.

The Affirmative Action Gender Equity Bill 2024 has now been transformed into the Affirmative Action Gender Equity Act, duly read the third time and passed. This marks the culmination of a significant legislative journey, signifying the finality of the bill’s passage.

However, MP Haruna Iddrisu of Tamale South, while acknowledging the bill’s significance, previously voiced concerns about its focus on international issues rather than specific Ghanaian challenges.

He shared his views during the 15th MTN Pulse Africa Transform Summit in Kumasi, urging women to aspire while managing their aspirations effectively.
