The Ghana Para Swimming Association has announced a historic breakthrough as Ghana prepares to be represented for the first time at the World Para Swimming Series in Australia.
Two athletes, Promise Wonder Atsu Aheto and Bryan Baffour Kwadjo Akoto, will travel to Australia to undergo international classification and compete in the prestigious championship, which also serves as a qualifying pathway toward the Commonwealth Games 2026.
The swimmers are set to compete in the 50m freestyle, 50m breaststroke and 100m breaststroke events. Their participation marks a significant step forward for para swimming in Ghana, offering an opportunity to secure international classification and meet qualification standards for future global competitions.
The Association expressed gratitude to the Ghana Olympic Committee for its financial support, which made the trip possible.
Association President Farida Idriss was credited for her leadership and advocacy in securing the opportunity. Officials say the milestone reflects growing collaboration among national sporting bodies and signals renewed commitment to developing para sports and creating international pathways for Ghanaian athletes.
