
Former Ghana coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor believes the Black Stars has been drawn in a manageable group for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, expressing confidence that the team can navigate the fixtures successfully and advance to the knockout stages.The global showpiece, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature an expanded 48-team format, with Ghana securing one of Africas nine automatic slots.Following the draw in Washington last year, the West African powerhouse has been paired in Group L against Panama, one-time champions England and 2018 finalists, Croatia at the mundial.Speaking to Graphic Sports, Akonnor, who is now the head coach of Gor Mahia described Ghanas group as manageable, while expressing optimism about the team advancing to the next stage of the tournament.Its a manageable group; we can achieve success and qualify for the next stage, he said.Meanwhile, Akonnor has expressed confidence in head coach Otto Addo and welcomed the recent strengthening of the Black Stars technical team, describing it as a critical step towards mounting a serious World Cup campaign.Our technical team has been strengthened, so they will do a good job. We can go as far as we can depending on our determination and how strategic we are, and ensuring every needed tool is working well.Ghana will open their World Cup account against Panama before taking on England and Croatia respectively.It will be Ghanas fifth World Cup appearance, having previously competed in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022, with their best performance coming in 2010 when they reached the quarter-finals.
