Ghanaian Soldier’s Newlywed Wife Wept Uncontrollably Before Fatal Helicopter Deployment

Sergeant Ernest Addo-Mensah, one of the Ghana Armed Forces personnel killed in the August 6th helicopter crash, spent just seven days with his wife after their wedding before returning to duty.

His mother has shared heartbreaking details of their final farewell, revealing the soldier’s bride wept inconsolably as he left, a grief the family now sees as prophetic.

“After the wedding, they had only one week together,” his mother disclosed in an interview. “When he left for work, his wife—a teacher—cried the entire time. We didn’t understand why; we thought she simply missed him.” Hours later, the family learned Sergeant Addo-Mensah had perished in the crash during a routine mission. The newlywed never saw his wife again.

The sergeant had served 14 years without incident, his mother noted, describing him as a devout man. “He knew God. We trust he’s now in the Almighty’s bosom,” she said. While investigations into the crash continue, the family grapples with the cruel timing of the loss—a marriage measured in days, and a final parting shrouded in unexplained sorrow.

For military families across Ghana, this underscores the fragile line between duty and homecoming.
