The Ghana Football Association has provided a positive update on midfielder Majeed Ashimeru, who suffered an injury during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Group B match against Egypt.
Despite being forced off in the second half, the Anderlecht player has made significant progress in his recovery, according to the Ghana FA.
In a statement, the association said, “Majeed Ashimeru has made significant progress on the injury he sustained during the Africa Cup of Nations group B game against Egypt on Thursday.” The midfielder had picked up a knock in the first half and was later substituted in the second half.
The medical team thoroughly assessed Ashimeru after the game and conducted further checks on Friday. They are confident about the progress made and will continue to assess him on Saturday afternoon before training.
Ashimeru has been a standout player for Ghana in the tournament so far, starting in both games against Cape Verde and Egypt.
He had a goal disallowed in the first game, which ended in a 2-1 loss for the Black Stars, and produced an excellent performance in the 2-2 draw against Egypt.
His availability for the must-win game against Mozambique will be crucial for Ghana’s chances of advancing to the round of 16.
