Ghana’s Black Princesses were held to a 2–2 draw by South Africa in the first leg of their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Despite enjoying home advantage, Charles Sampson’s side was unable to secure a win, leaving the tie finely balanced ahead of the return leg.

Agnes Yeboah and Linda Owusu Ansah found the back of the net for Ghana, but their efforts were not enough to seal victory as the visitors matched the Princesses throughout an entertaining and competitive encounter.

The result underlined the growing competitiveness of youth women’s football on the continent and leaves Ghana facing an uphill task in their quest to qualify for an eighth successive FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

The Black Princesses are eager to return to the global stage after missing out on qualification for the last edition of the tournament.
