Ghana’s sprint sensation Rasheed Saminu put in a strong performance at the ongoing Gyulai Istvan Memorial meet in Budapest, finishing second in the men’s 100m sprint with a time of 10.01 seconds.
The event, part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting, saw Saminu narrowly edged out by Jamaican sprinter Kishane Thompson, who won the race clocking a blistering 9.95 seconds.
Thompson’s win was part of a star-studded lineup of sprinters, with notable sprinter Akani Simbine of South Africa also finishing with a time of 10.01 seconds but edged into third place.
Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake and American Ronnie Baker rounded out the top five, recording times of 10.04 and 10.05 seconds respectively, underscoring the competitive nature of the race.
Saminu’s performance at Budapest highlights his rising profile on the international athletics stage as he maintains a sub-10.1-second pace, demonstrating both consistency and speed among some of the world’s best sprinters.
His showing is a positive signal for Ghana, as the country continues to produce athletes capable of competing at a high level globally.
