Ghanaian talent Sumaila Awudu has begun the 2024/25 football season impressively, leading Clermont Foot B to a hard-fought 1-1 draw away at Lyon la Duchère in the French National Championnat 3.
The home team took the lead, but the Young Lancers responded with an equalizer from Amine Bouchena, ensuring the points were shared.
Awudu, 19, joined Clermont Foot in the summer of 2023 and quickly stood out, earning a promotion from the U-19 side to the reserves.
In his debut as captain, he demonstrated his versatility, playing as a left-sided center-back in a three-man defense. His standout performance drew praise from supporters at Duchère Stadium.
A JMG Academy graduate, Awudu is determined to continue his rise, with aspirations of breaking into Clermont Foot’s first team, which competes in Ligue 2.
Clermont Foot B will face Évian Thonon next on September 7 at the Stade Gabriel-Montpied (annexe 2).
Sumaila Awudu will hope to follow the footsteps of Alidu Seidu and Salis Abdul Samed to the Clermont Foot first team.
