The Global Media Foundation, (GLOMEF) a prominent media organization committed to advocating for press freedom and media development, has announced the commencement of a significant fundraising campaign with the goal of raising $15 million to back its new 5-year strategic plan.

Through this ambitious endeavor, the foundation aims to enhance its backing for independent journalism, media literacy, and journalist rights.

This announcement comes at a crucial juncture for media institutions, with press freedom encountering unprecedented challenges in various regions worldwide.

In light of this backdrop, the Global Media Foundation’s strategic plan seeks to bolster its capabilities to aid endeavors that safeguard journalists, combat misinformation, and empower communities through media education and advocacy.

“We are delighted to introduce our new strategic plan, which underscores our steadfast dedication to upholding the principles of a free and independent press,” affirmed Raphael Godlove Ahenu, the founder and CEO of the Global Media Foundation. “By securing the essential funding, we will be able to broaden our reach and support media professionals in the face of evolving threats to press freedom.”

The Foundation’s 5-year strategic plan delineates a comprehensive roadmap for enhancing its programs and initiatives, encompassing the establishment of regional media support centers, the creation of innovative digital media literacy resources, and the provision of emergency aid to at-risk journalists.

To initiate the fundraising campaign, the Global Media Foundation has already garnered commitments from major donors and philanthropic organizations. Furthermore, the Foundation intends to harness its global network of supporters and partners to raise awareness and garner backing for its cause.

“We call upon individuals, corporations, and institutions who share our commitment to press freedom and media development to join us on this significant journey,” expressed Clement Boateng, the new Country Director of Global Media Foundation.

He added, “With the generous support of donors, we can ensure that journalists have the resources and protection necessary to continue their vital work in challenging circumstances.”

The fundraising campaign is slated to unfold over the upcoming months, featuring a series of events, outreach initiatives, and digital campaigns designed to engage a wide range of stakeholders. The Global Media Foundation is optimistic that the collective efforts of its supporters will aid the Foundation in realizing its ambitious vision for the next five years.

Amidst unprecedented challenges to media freedom worldwide, the endeavors of the Global Media Foundation will play a meaningful role in bolstering independent journalism’s resilience and advancing the critical function of the media in fostering well-informed and empowered societies.
