The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority, James Gardiner, has announced that government has committed GH₵20 million to support the growth of Ghana’s film industry through a new Film Development Fund.

He made this known at the Ashanti Film Summit held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, where key stakeholders in the industry gathered to discuss the future of filmmaking in Ghana.

According to James Gardiner, the fund is expected to become operational in the second quarter of 2026, providing a more structured approach to financing within the creative sector.

He explained that the Film Development Fund will support local filmmakers, help finance film projects, and nurture creative talent across the country. Describing the initiative, he said it is a “strategic tool” aimed at driving growth across the entire film value chain, particularly in production.
