The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has assured Ghanaians that all road contracts under the 24-hour economy initiative will be awarded based on merit, not political affiliation.

Speaking during his session at the ‘Government Accountability Series’ held at the Presidency on July 30, 2025, the Minister for Raods said the Ministry is fully aligned with President Mahama’s vision of a 24-hour economy and has already begun implementing the policy on selected sites.

“The 24-hour economy is not a project, it is a policy,” the minister said, adding that contractors are already working around the clock on some sites.

The Minister for Roads and Highways also revealed that all future “Big Push” projects will contain contractual clauses mandating 24/7 operations to ensure speedy delivery and value for money.

Mr Governs Kwame Agbodza also added that the selection criteria for contractors will focus on capacity, professionalism, and commitment to the policy’s goals. “It doesn’t matter whether a contractor supports NDC or NPP,” he said. “What matters is their ability to execute the job on time and in line with national priorities.”

According to the Minister, there will be strict timelines, and no room for delays or political interference. The Minister added that oversight mechanisms are in place to monitor adherence to schedules and to ensure public funds are used efficiently.

The 24-hour economy policy is a flagship initiative of the Mahama administration aimed at accelerating infrastructure delivery and improving productivity across key sectors.
