Ghana Rubber Estates Limited (GREL) has donated a state-of-the-art chemistry analyser valued at GH¢190,000 to the Agona Nkwanta Polyclinic to enhance diagnostic services at the facility.

The equipment is expected to improve the clinic’s capacity to conduct essential laboratory investigations, particularly liver and kidney function tests, for more than 25,000 people in Agona Nkwanta and surrounding communities.

The donation forms part of the company’s broader commitment to supporting healthcare infrastructure and community development initiatives within its operational areas.

Presenting the equipment, GREL’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Perry Acheampong, said the gesture was in line with the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at supporting its host communities.

He noted that the company’s operations are closely linked to the well-being of the communities in which it operates, particularly rubber farmers whose produce sustains its processing activities.

“Our survival as a company is directly linked to the farmers who supply us with rubber for processing. When farmers thrive, GREL thrives. When they struggle, we feel it too,” he said.

Mr. Acheampong emphasised that healthcare remains a key focus area for the company, stressing that a healthy population is critical to productivity and development.

He explained that the chemistry analyser would significantly enhance the diagnostic capacity of the polyclinic, particularly in the detection and management of metabolic, liver and kidney conditions.

He further urged the facility’s management to ensure the proper use and maintenance of the equipment to guarantee its longevity and sustainability.

The Medical Superintendent of the Agona Nkwanta Polyclinic, Dr. Emmanuel Ofosu Larbi, expressed gratitude to GREL for the support, describing the equipment as timely.

He said the facility had, for some time, relied on referrals to Takoradi for specialised laboratory tests, especially liver and kidney function assessments, which often delayed diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Ofosu Larbi highlighted ongoing challenges facing the facility, including inadequate staff strength. He disclosed that the polyclinic is currently operating with only one medical doctor, and is experiencing shortages of nurses and other critical health personnel.

He also mentioned infrastructural constraints, noting that the paediatric ward, emergency unit, maternity ward and theatre are housed in the same building, with limited recovery space.

The Municipal Health Director, Emmanuel Bediana, also commended GREL for the donation, stating that the intervention aligns with the national objective of achieving universal health coverage.

He said the availability of the chemistry analyser would reduce the need for patients to travel long distances to access essential laboratory services.

Mr. Bediana described healthcare as an investment, noting that a healthy population contributes to national productivity and growth. He called on other corporate institutions to support public health facilities to improve service delivery.
