The Ghana Rubber Estates Limited (GREL) has inaugurated a modern washroom facility valued at GH¢272,000 for the Eguafo Breman Kindergarten School in the Central Region to improve sanitation.

The facility, which includes a water storage tank and a mechanised borehole to provide reliable water supply, forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at enhancing the learning environment for pupils and improving living conditions in communities that host its operations.

At a brief ceremony, the Corporate Affairs Manager of GREL, Perry Acheampong, said the project would provide pupils with a clean, safe and dignified sanitation environment.

He noted that access to proper sanitation in schools plays a critical role in promoting effective teaching and learning, particularly for young children.

He explained that the intervention builds on GREL’s earlier support to the community when the company constructed a six-unit kindergarten school block for the school in 2019 at a cost of GH¢340,000.

According to him, GREL believes education remains the foundation of every progressive society and, therefore, continues to support initiatives that improve educational infrastructure in its operational communities.

Mr. Acheampong also highlighted the importance of agribusiness in driving rural development, stressing that agriculture must go beyond primary production to include processing and value addition.

He said local processing of agricultural commodities such as rubber creates employment opportunities, increases incomes and strengthens rural economies.

He pointed that thousands of rubber farmers across the country play a crucial role in sustaining GREL’s operations and contributing to national economic growth.

Mr. Acheampong urged the school authorities and community members to maintain the facility to ensure its longevity and continued benefit to the pupils.

He also expressed gratitude to the chiefs, elders, farmers and residents of Eguafo Breman for their continued cooperation and peaceful relationship with the company.

The Municipal Director of Education for the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality, Madam Mercy Ekua Lisa, expressed appreciation to GREL for the support.

She said education thrives in an environment that is safe, clean and supportive, adding that the new facility would significantly improve hygiene and sanitation in the school.

The Chairman of the Association on Whose Land GREL Operates (ACLANGO), Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX, commended the company for the numerous development interventions in its operational areas and called on the school authorities to maintain the facility.

The Chief of Eguafo Breman, Nana Gyan Dadzie I, also praised GREL for the initiative.

“Unfortunately, most households in this area do not have such a facility, and we promise to put it to good use,” he said.

The Municipal Chief Executive for KEEA, Mr. Ishmael Saheed Zakour, applauded GREL for the gesture and emphasised the need for a strong maintenance culture to ensure that the facility serves the pupils for many years.
