The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has released an official statement addressing viral social-media videos in which several visiting Black Americans claim they were abducted and extorted by individuals posing as police officers.

The statement, issued on 8 December 2025 and signed by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Bright Asempa Tsadidey, on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, confirms that the matter has been taken up by the relevant national-security agencies.

According to the GTA, the Ghana Police Service, working in collaboration with the Cyber Security Authority has already begun investigations into the allegations to establish the facts and identify those involved.

The Authority further assured the public and the international community that Ghana remains a safe destination for travel and leisure. It noted that security measures have been heightened nationwide, especially as thousands of tourists participate in the ongoing December in GH festivities.

The GTA encouraged visitors to stay informed through official communication channels and to report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
