The Upper West Regional Directorate of the Ghana Tourism Authority recently organized a heritage bicycle tour for about 150 schoolchildren in the Wa Municipality, as part of this year’s Chocolate Month celebrations.
Kwasi Anim-Larbi, the Regional Director, highlighted that this initiative is part of a long-running national campaign to boost cocoa consumption and raise awareness of Ghana’s rich cultural and tourism heritage.
The event engaged 12 basic schools, expanding from the original six due to high interest, and included guided tours of key local sites like the historic Dondoli Mosque and the Wa Naa’s Palace.
Mr. Anim-Larbi emphasized that the tour blends recreation with experiential learning, fostering an appreciation of local heritage among young people. This experience paired with cycling also encouraged the students to participate in the sport.
He encouraged the community to explore and support local tourism, helping to attract visitors and sustain cultural preservation.
