A concerned guardian has called for immediate action from authorities after alleging that students at Accra Academy were subjected to unhygienic haircut practices on campus.
In a message shared online, Kezia Adjoa Dosseh expressed alarm over what she described as an “unpleasant and unprofessional” haircut given to her younger brother and several other students by the school’s Prep Master. According to her, a single shaving machine was used on multiple students whose hair was deemed “bushy,” without any sanitation measures between uses.
“This raises serious health concerns,” Dosseh wrote. “Using one shaving machine on several students exposes them to infections, allergies, and skin diseases.” She added that her brother, who suffers from asthma and other allergic conditions, was particularly at risk due to the unhygienic process.
Dosseh noted that the incident occurred just two weeks before the students were set to go home for vacation. She suggested that, if grooming was necessary, the school could have arranged for professional barbers or provided proper equipment. She also mentioned that Accra Academy reportedly has only one barber, who does not visit the campus regularly.
Reflecting on past practices, she highlighted that before the Free Senior High School policy was introduced, students had mid-term breaks that allowed them to go home for proper care. With those breaks removed, she argued, schools must now take greater responsibility for the health and safety of students on campus.
“I believe this issue deserves public attention to prompt accountability and ensure the safety and dignity of all students,” Dosseh concluded, urging the Ministry of Education and school authorities to investigate the matter.
